Eli's 3-year check-up

Eli at his 3 year-old check-up
Eli had his 3 year check-up yesterday. He is 33 lbs (60th percentile) and 39 inches long (80th percentile). Eli has always been around average for height and weight, so it is cool to see him in the 80th percentile for height...

Along with taking their measurements they also did a vision test that Eli passed. It was so cute because they put little glasses on him... 2 pairs, one that covers each eye. I wasn't sure how he would do, but the nurse gave him the instructions and he got every single letter she pointed out. So proud of him!

So fun to watch him grow!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Eli!

Our boy in his birthday hat at school!
My Dear Eli,

You are 3-years old today!  It seems like yesterday your Daddy and I were anxiously waiting for your arrival! We could hardly wait to hold you in our arms and spend our days with you. Now you have been here for 3 years, and you have certainly made your mark in this world.

Nothing makes me happier than simply being with you. I cherish every ounce of time I have with you... whether we are playing trucks, blocks, fixing stuff, coloring, playing with playdough, puzzles, singing songs, reading books, or even playing baseball... nothing makes me happier!

I adore all your silly little quirks... For example, you love to wear the hoods up on your sweatshirts... you like to put your arms in the shirt first and then put your head in (like Daddy does it). Some days Daddy is your best friend and some days Mama is your best friend. Everytime we drive by buses, firetrucks, ambulances, police cars, diggers, bulldozers, bobcats, etc. we have to slow down so you can get a good look at it.

You love to ride your tricycle outside that you call your "motorcycle". One time we saw our neighbor, Floyd, outside cleaning his scooter. I said, "Eli, look, Floyd's outside cleaning his scooter." You said, "No, Mama, it's a motorcycle." Later when we were outside and talking to Floyd, you had to run home to get your trike, ahem, I mean motorcycle to show Floyd.

You also have a Little Tykes car that you call your "Firetruck". You love to ride it up and down the sidewalk. I fear this fall was the last time you will be able to ride it as your knees were already hitting the "dashboard" of your "Firetruck".

You love to go to the park and make friends. You are not shy about meeting new kids and playing with them while we are at the park. In fact, when you see kids walking up to the park, you will run up to them and greet them and see if they want to play.

You love when it rains outside so that you can wear your rain coat and rain boots. But you also love to wear your rain coat and rain boots even when it isn't raining...

You love to help me out in the kitchen. You love to bake and "mix" as you say. You are a great helping with adding the ingredients and you love to watch the mixer spin everything around. Such a great little helper!

You love playing baseball in the yard. You are very good at playing catch and also very good at hitting the ball on your own (when Mama makes a good pitch). We also play baseball at the park, even if we don't bring a bat and a ball. We play pretend baseball and Mama makes the pitch and you hit a home run (everytime!) and run around the bases! You usually run in your own sequence, maybe from 3rd base and around or maybe straight to second and back home... whichever way you go, it is always fun!

You love playing hockey in the basement with Daddy! Uncle Boom got you your very own nets for Christmas, so we have those set up for you and Daddy to play with. Whenever you make a goal you will shout at the top of your lungs, "Score! Minnesota WILD!"

You also love watching hockey with Daddy. The WILD or the U/Nordy or Goldy. Whenever they make a goal, you and Daddy shoot your arms up in the air and say, "Score! Minnesota WILD!"
You love to sing. Some of your favorites are: Da Farmer in da Dell, Baa-Baa Black Sheep, Row-Row Row Da Boat, and your all time favorite... Take Me Out Da Ball Game.

You love stickers. You love wearing stickers and you love playing with them and putting them on paper. When you get to pick a sticker for being a good boy or going potty on the toilet, it takes you FOREVER to pick one out... you stand there looking at your options, smack your lips and say, "Ummm.....". Daddy and I will make suggestions, but you say "Ummm....." a couple more times until you find the perfect one!

You love band-aids and can come up with a million reasons why you need one (or more). My finger hurts... put a band-aid on it! My tummy hurts... put a band-aid on it! Etc!

You have brought so much joy to this world. I have always said, you are a person that walks into a room and lights it up with your beautiful smile and your equally beautiful personality. I am so proud of you and the little person that you have become. I love being your Mama more than anything in this world. You are such a special person and I am so proud that you are mine.

Happy 3rd Birthday, my sweet boy! Your Daddy and I love you so very much!

Love,

Mama

Book Club Tuesday - The Crowning Glory of Calla Lily Ponder

A selection from my book club. Another I probably wouldn't have picked out myself, but I enjoyed this one. I read a review for the book prior to reading that said it seemed like it was the first draft that went straight to print, which I have to agree with as some parts the writing was less than smooth... That being said, an easy read and a very beautiful story.

Giving Thanks - Day 22

I am thankful for a good bra. Nuff said.

You were a Pin-cess, Mama?

In our hall we have some pictures hung up. One of them is a picture of Nick and I on our wedding day. Eli pointed it out yesterday and asked what it was. I told him it is a picture of Mama and Daddy when they got married. He responded, "You were a Pin-cess, Mama?" I said, "Yes. Yes, I was a Pin-cess."
